Preventing Harmful Drug Use In Australia

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Cannabis Interventions (NCPIC) - Stage 4

Project Team

To date the Could it be the gunja? project has developed and piloted a series of cannabis information resources, a screening and brief intervention (SBI) model, resources to support SBI and an implementation package to support the sustainable uptake of SBI in workplaces. The implementation package includes materials to support the engagement of staff, agency protocols, staff training and a skills DVD. The project is also developing its own website.

The current stage of the project aims to:

Complete a targeted mail out of could it be the gunja? Health promotion resources (5 x posters

and 2 x pamphlets) to Aboriginal community controlled primary health care services and other agencies. Broadly disseminate the resources using a website.

Complete a version of the implementation package for broad dissemination. This will allow organisations to successfully implement cannabis screening and brief intervention at their own pace and using their own staff as trainers and champions.

Broadly disseminate the implementation package. Dissemination will be achieved through website and through seminar and conference presentations.
